Use these characters: !! Are there any valid reasons as to why 4 is looked upon fondly compared to 5 and 6?For me, I could not tell a difference. RE4 was just as much an action oriented game as 5 and 6 (maybe not to such a large degree, of course, but it's still there). I read comments stating that RE5 was crap, and that RE4 was a true survival horror game that stuck to its roots from start to finish. Except, I really don't agree with that; the closest RE4 came to being reminiscent of the previous installments were when you were in claustrophobic circumstances that required you to be strategical in your line of thinking, which evokes intense fear (having to kill two garradors, trying not to get killed by both of them was SCARY!). But those moments were fleeting. The final third of the game puts you up against all of these enemies, but it just came off as an action game at that point, which was dissapointing to me because it didn't feel true to Resident Evil spirit.Sometimes, it feels like (some) fans put 4 on a pedestal to make 5 and 6 look bad.

I think 4, 5, and 6 are good games (6 is polarizing, but I'm willing to acknowledge it's merits and say that Capcom did some things right in that game). I just want to know why 4 is so heavily acclaimed, when 5 and 6 are looked down upon. I really believe 5 and 6 followed on the intended design philosophy that 4 set on the series before 7 was announced.

Now here is the thing many people don't seem to understand when they compare 4 with 5 or 6 because all they see is the same kind of gameplay (over the shoulder action survival horror) with the boss fights at the end of the chapters, However there is a big difference between themNow when resident evil 4 was released if I'm right it was 2005 and at that time it was the best looking game for that generation of the consoles also it was a total different breathtaking experience into the world of resident evil if we compare with the original 3. The level design of the game was amazing, the boss fights were spectacular and including everything about that game was top notch. By finishing the game u could tell yourself how much effort the developers have put into that gameThe thing with resident evil 5 was that it was nothing else than just a copy paste of the same game (re4) with some enhance visuals and some returning characters for you. No new mechanics, twists and easy puzzles with just an easy version of resident evil 4 with a Chris instead of Leon added with quick time events through out the cutscenes which end up being a good game to have bit fun time with your friend. At this time it was the start of the action superhero genre within the resident evil franchiseResident evil 6 was an example to show you that sometimes quantity doesn't mean quality.

3 campaigns with there own stories but no depth to it whatsoever. The only campaign people did preferred to play was Leon but then again it wasn't enough to redeem the full game. This time it was even less puzzles, more quick time events and just action all over with less charismatic story campaigns. It was just a mess all over. Now with the resident evil 7 it shows that these companies do listen to there fan base and fingers crossed it has the potential to turned out to be the best of the franchise period.

I think 4 is an amazing game, 5 is a good game, and 6 is an intensely mediocre game.I put 4 above the rest for a few reasons. Firstly, it was fresh, and it was a breath of fresh air the series needed at the time.

Some people may disagree, but RE4 literally changed the game at the time. It felt like a paradigm shift in how to approach not just Resident Evil but shooters overall. There is a lightning in a bottle effect RE5 and RE6 couldn't replicate. But more than that, the story was based in old school horror. Cults, foreign lands, conspiracy. It was classical in the way that RE1 or RE2 felt like classic horror. The atmosphere was there. RE5 just felt like a diluted version of RE4, and atmosphere was basically nonexistent in RE6.Also, RE5 and RE6 are co-op games.

I've had a blast playing co-op RE, yes, but at a cost. Constantly having a partner cripples the experience of feeling like the odds are against you. What it boils down to for me is this: Resident Evil is 'survival horror', and RE5/6 abandoned both the survival and the horror. RE4 streamlined a lot of the mechanics that the series was built on, but they were still there, and in a solid enough ratio to forgive the more action-oriented approach. RE5 and especially 6 went on to abandon them almost completely, and in turn lost the series' identity in the process save for some familiar faces. Anyone who was a fan of the franchise at the time 4 was released were blasting it just as badly as 5 and 6 get blasted these days. 'RE4 is a great game but it isn't a resident evil game' was the common mantra on message boards back in the day.Eventually as the series continued RE4 was given some margin of acceptance and the new fans who came to the franchise at that point praised RE4 just as the older fans praised RE1. As far as the action oriented resident evil games go, 4 probably was the best.

It was also the last game to not include online multiplayer which does not fit the horror genre at all IMO but as far as calling RE4 a 'true survival horror game' that it is definitely not. I never had any issues with 5, its plot is spactacurlaly dumb and the level design is a bit dull, but its fine overall, and plays identically to 4. 6 though.6 plays very differently and has some huge problems, at its core, its just not fun to play, enemies react differently to shots so there is less of a crowd control element, tons of enemies have guns and after taking a 'block' of health damage you get stunned and fall to the ground which is super obnoxious, bosses are bullet sponges, its hard to really explain all of it, but something about the combat in 6 is just kind of off.
