How To Install Hoi4 Mods Manually
I tried to install mods manually because I hate Workshop but they don't show up in the launcher. I don't know where to put them, and is the folder for mods named 'mod' or 'mods'?
Love the steam workshop because it's so easy to use and manage large numbers of mods. However: is it always the best choice?Let's say I permanently want to exchange the minister pics of Sweden with cute little kittens. Let's say there's a 'kitten pix' mod in the workshop and I subscribe to it.
What happens if the creater or the admins for some reason remove the kitten mod? Will I still be able to use it?Would it be safer to manually replace the Swedish ministers with kittens and store the kitten pics locally for backup purposes? That way my files couldn't get overwritten by workshop updates/deletions. 'One of the most damaging lies of our era is the falsehood that people must give up freedom to enjoy economic progress, which makes me think of a story - everything makes me think of a story - about three dogs: an American dog, and a Polish dog and a Russian dog.And they were all having a visit, and the American dog was telling them about how things were in this country. He said, 'You know, you bark and if you have to, you bark long enough and then somebody comes along and gives you some meat.'

- All the mods that I get from Steam Workshop are fine, but the ones that I get from Moddb just plain don't work. They even get deleted by the launcher, I have tried setting them to read-only but they will have no effect in the game if I do so. So what is the correct way to install mods manually.
When you use a mod it uses the mods directories and the files inside over the ones you have, unless the mod replaces ministers pictures it shouldn't replace your kittens. And then even after you have stopped using a mod that would modify ministers it would go back to your kittens. You would still have the mod if it was deleted from the workshop but it would probably be marked as incompatible next time an update came out, as long as it was only minister pictures it should still be fine though, if it changed something in game which was later modified by paradox it would probably just break. It's always better to have further control over the mods, ex. Editing anything you want without it being overwritten the next time you launch (since it will think it's outdated or something and 'fix' the files back).I'm sure the option will still be available. They would have to go through a lot of trouble to make them non-workable and I don't think there is any reason for them to do that, especially since the Workshop is limited (ex.
For other Paradox titles there are limitations to the size of mods). I personally always prefer direct download & installation rather than Steam Workshop, only allowing some smaller mods through it. Click to expand. If you edit the files of a Steam Workshop subscribed mod - it automatically updates it when you launch if there's any changes (that way it 'updates' the mod to the latest/correct version and ensures any corruptions are fixed). You just need to direct download it and remove the relevance of the Workshop and it'll be fine. I also believe you can just backup the mod, unsubscribe on the Workshop and then place it back unless the Workshop mods differ greatly from the regular ones (ex.
The mod configuration files explicitly link to Workshop). They actually might, at least they do in Total War games (you have to change the mod configuration files with a hex editor to 'fix' them into being considered as not workshop and work correctly when launched outside of the usual Workshop mod procedure) and I believe that EU IV and other games have some differences as well.
