The long awaited Medieval Kingdoms Total War 1212 AD Campaign has finally hit Alpha! I was sold until he said the battles are like DEI and I saw two huge blobs of cav hit each other in a massive charge and NOBODY DIED. Like fuck off with that sort of combat it isn't fun or realistic, yes casualties were much lower in actual historical battles than in Total War, but not so low that two giant groups of cav would slam into each other and nobody would die. Not to mention again, it's just not fun and you can literally just exploit the AI because they don't know how to flank well enough to take advantage of morale based combat. This is honestly my reason for keeping medieval 2 ss6.4 as my fav total war experience, and also the best one of the historical TWs.

Total war: attila 1220 mod

The thing is that in Medieval 2 the idiosyncracies of the period are perfectly encapsulated- knights will just ravage through anything other than other knights or pikemen. Which is basically what it was like in real life- small bands of western knights decked out in top tier armor could safely ignore pre-mongol composite bow archers from Saladin's side and deal him a number of defeats. Not only are the battles in medieval 2 lopsides, but they're also incredibly satisfying and to some extent through its own 'lack of balance' also more realistic.of course for online gameplay balance, which seems to be more and more important for the historical TWs for CA, this is not really that good but I liked it tbh. True, but in real life, Knights were preety few and very expensive. Now being a game, yeah, you can form a stack of knights but in reality, most soldiers were levies while only few battalions were knights, especially mounted knights, they were the bread and butter but extremely expensive and time taking (a knight had to train alot).

Even so, i love SSHIP mod for SS6.4 which makes knight replenish rate very slow, so you actually have to wait alot to train a unit of knights and you cant spam them like there is no tommorow. But they are above everything else except for other knights, as you said.
